Fire equipment servicing must be carried out in NSW once per year, and an Annual Fire Safety Statement AFSS submitted to council confirming the fire equipment listed on the fire safety schedule meets the minimum standard of performance and that the building is safe for occupation.

However, some clients choose to have the fire equipment checked at more regular intervals as nominated by the Australian Standards for maintenance, while some insurers insist this standard is followed.
